Fiber laser is a kind of laser using rare earth element doped glass fiber as gain medium. It can be developed on the basis of fiber amplifier. At present, it has been widely used in material processing fields such as industrial shipbuilding, automobile manufacturing, laser engraving, laser cutting and so on. For applications in the field of material processing, fiber lasers are generally required to have high power and controllable energy distribution. In order to achieve this goal, laser experts from Saxony and Israel have developed and tested a new fiber laser at the Fraunhofer Institute of materials and beam technology (IWS) in Germany. The laser is prepared based on the coherent beam combination (CBC) method. Its energy can reach 13 kW, and the distribution mode of laser energy can be quickly adjusted, so that any material can be accurately and quickly processed.
